What is / was TheDigitalBarn?

The Digital Barn (stylised as “TheDigitalBarn”) was a grassroots conference that our agency ran in Barnsley during the early 2010s. It brought together designers, developers and digital professionals for a day of practical talks, workshops and community-focused learning.

The event was intentionally small, affordable and accessible and was aimed at freelancers, indie studios and in-house teams who wanted real-world advice rather than serious big-conference topics.

The sessions covered everything from winning and working with bigger clients to UX, WordPress, front-end development, and improving online experiences.

We hosted the event at the Barnsley Digital Media Centre and the event ran for several years and became known for its relaxed atmosphere and hands-on and sometimes messy and fun sessions.

It was replaced by the larger FrontEndNorth conference which we founded in 2014. This was a larger more focused event and needed larger venues in Manchester and Sheffield.

If you’d like, I can also create a shorter version, a more SEO-driven version, or a more nostalgic/personal version.
