Flexible Full Site Editing WordPress Platform for The Great Yorkshire Events Centre

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS) plays a vital role in supporting agriculture and rural industries across Yorkshire and the North of England. Among their portfolio of websites is The Great Yorkshire Show, one of the region’s best-known events.

When the YAS team prepared to rebrand their Event Centre into The Great Yorkshire Events Centre, they needed a new website that would reflect the updated brand while remaining flexible, easy to manage, and adaptable to future growth. The existing site had suffered from poor design and unstructured content, so a full rebuild was required.

From the outset, our team identified WordPress Full Site Editing (FSE) as the best solution. FSE offered the YAS marketing department control not just over content but also over design elements, enabling them to quickly adapt layouts and visual features as their needs evolved.

Using the Ollie boilerplate as a foundation, we created a custom FSE template tailored to the Great Yorkshire Events Centre brand. This included a fully editable design system, giving the YAS team long-term autonomy over the site’s look and feel.

The project was delivered in close collaboration with YAS as both a build and a training exercise. By working together, we ensured the team had the knowledge and confidence to manage the site independently. Custom features such as an event calendar and a “What’s On” section were also developed to enhance the platform’s functionality.

Since launch, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society has continued working with Make Do through one of our Support and Growth packages, covering not only the new Great Yorkshire Events Centre website but also several of their other sites. This ongoing partnership ensures their digital platforms remain robust, scalable, and well-supported, while YAS can focus on their mission of promoting agriculture and rural industries.
