Global WordPress Multisite and Geo-Redirect System for Palram

When Palram first came to Make Do, their digital presence was spread across multiple standalone WordPress installs running on separate servers and domains.

The result was a system that was difficult to maintain, inconsistent, and prone to errors.

Our first task was to perform a full WordPress audit and adoption process, moving the entire setup onto a stable hosting platform and consolidating everything into a central WordPress multisite network.

This shift allowed Palram to manage multiple regional websites from one place, reducing overhead while creating consistency across global markets such as the USA, Spain, Australia, and Israel.

Automated Visitor Redirection System

But the bigger challenge came next: ensuring customers always landed on the right regional site, with intelligent handling of language and location.

To achieve this, we built a custom geo-location solution from the ground up:

• A server-side API detected user location, supported by a front-end JavaScript layer.
• Visitors were automatically redirected to the correct regional site.
• Where no dedicated site existed, fallback rules sent users to the most relevant alternative (e.g., Canadian users redirected to the USA site).
• The system was built to be transparent and user-friendly.
• A multilingual redirect notification pop-up explained the redirection and gave users the option to remain on the original site.
• The notification system supported both left-to-right and right-to-left languages.

Behind the scenes, we engineered a bespoke language mapping table for managing canonical URLs, site relationships, and language handling. This ensured not only accurate redirection but also strong SEO, avoiding duplicate content issues that are common with international sites.

The solution has been live for several years and remains in active use, with ongoing enhancements to meet Palram’s evolving needs. It has delivered a significantly improved user experience, stronger global search performance, and a streamlined workflow for Palram’s international teams.
