WordPress NHS Charity Website Design for St John’s Hospice

St John’s Hospice

WordPress Website for St John’s Hospice Doncaster to Support Fundraising and Patient Care

Client: St John’s Hospice / Doncaster NHS

When St John’s Hospice in Doncaster was referred to us by a former NHS client, the team had no online presence at all. As a palliative care charity, they urgently needed a WordPress website development protect to build a new platform that could raise their profile, support fundraising, and provide vital information for patients, families, and volunteers.

This was their first ever website and it needed to deliver across multiple audiences with very different needs.

The challenge was clear. With limited budgets and multiple stakeholders, the site had to work hard from day one. It needed to reassure patients with sensitive, clear content while also promoting services to clinicians, encouraging donations from the public, and engaging local volunteers. Balancing these priorities while keeping the site simple and easy to use was the key to success.

Hands On Workshops & Training

Our process began with stakeholder workshops, where we worked closely with the team to understand their requirements. From here, we designed a responsive WordPress site that was both professional and approachable.

We suggested new sections for volunteers and news updates, ensuring the site could grow with the charity. To support the launch, we also wrote and structured compelling content tailored to each audience, giving every section its own identity while maintaining a consistent overall design.

Training was a crucial part of the project. We equipped the hospice team with the skills needed to update and manage their site independently, empowering them to take ownership of their digital presence. This ensured the platform could evolve alongside their fundraising and community initiatives without requiring heavy ongoing technical input.

A hospice website with significant impact

The whole design and build process was seamless. Make Do really know how to drive projects forward

Since launch, the impact has been significant. St John’s Hospice has seen a marked improvement in profile and awareness, with the website providing a quick and simple way for supporters to donate online. The success of digital fundraising is already helping to underpin a building programme and improvements to patient facilities – making a real difference in the local community.

This was a project we’re especially proud of because it led to a first-ever website for a hospice with such a meaningful cause, and giving them the tools to manage it effectively into the future as a technical WordPress agency.
